There are very few words that perfectly tie together the three overarching themes of this publication: Cannabis, Music, and the Culture woven between the both of them.
(At least, very few that aren’t cringey or already taken.)
In music, a clip is a short segment of a song that is used in other mediums, such as radio and video. Or for our audiophile friends, clipping is also what happens when amplifiers become overloaded and cause distortion.
Outside of sound, ‘The Clip’ also works its way into Cannabis; many connoisseurs enjoy holding onto their joints with a roach clip, an often decorated tool that keeps fingers resin-free and fabulous. Additionally, clip is synonym for trim, a very important step in cannabis cultivation.
What The Clip isn’t, however, is an industry magazine for either cannabis or music. There are plenty of publications who do a bang-up job of delicious resin press close-ups, insights from master growers, and gratuitous product promotion. Likewise, there are even more publications opining on drum machines, Radiohead, and the Subgenre of the Month.
While we’ll certainly be diving into both of these realms, it is always with the other one in mind, highlighting how music and cannabis interact with each other in our brains, in our communities, and in our culture.
It is our sincerest hope that The Clip finds exactly who it’s meant to reach - our fellow artists, fans, jokers, tokers, critics, and especially our marginalized comrades, who know that both cannabis and music are nothing without us. We hope it encourages you to discover something new, think critically, spark discussion, and most importantly, revel in two of life’s greatest pleasures in a way that is uniquely yours.
