Canadian Music Monday #02: Columbo
While certainly not underground, pop music has always had an impressively wide range of melodies and lyricism purpose-built to illicit emotion from the listener. And this artist is no different!
Hailing from Port Colborne Ontario, Seth Pizzo is Columbo: a lover of the craft of expression through art. After four years of making music, Columbo writes a truly groovy love letter to the pop genre in Tighten Up. The song’s lyrics, electronic melodies and rhythms urge us to sing and dance, staying true to Columbo’s mission statement of eliciting joy and happiness from listeners.

“I started making music in 2020 during the long and stressful covid lockdown and never looked back; from listening to beats on youtube to writing songs and freestyling melodies for hours on end, I grew to love the craft of making something that will stand the test of time and leave a legacy, no matter the size.
I made Tighten Up while I was sick with Covid in my room, with so much time on my hands I tried something I never had thought I would do: Pop music. With this new undertaking I found what it really means to make music regardless of genre. I explored the question of “How can I make people feel what I'm feeling?” and no by that I did not mean sick with Covid, but how can I make them feel happy, how can I have people take their pent up emotions, like the 10% of energy reserves you have left after a long, boring or otherwise not-so great day and use it to dance or to move or to look in the mirror and feel good?”
